Upcoming Medication for IBS-D

Thursday July 24, 2008
A promising medication for IBS-D appears to be coming down the line. Napo Pharmaceuticals recently announced that a medication called crofelemer was effective in increasing the number of pain-free days in females who suffer from IBS-D. This is the first I have heard of this medication. As further research is published, I will keep you posted. Hopefully, in the meantime, the company is working on a catchier name (smiley face!).

For more information, see the Napo press announcement.

For information on medications for IBS-D that are currently available, see my article: Prescription Medication for Diarrhea Predominant Irritable Bowel Syndrome.
