    Hemorrhoids are veins in the anus and rectum that are swollen and inflamed. Hemorrhoids are classified as internal hemorrhoids if they are located within the rectum or external if they are located on the anus.  Some hemorrhoids result in no symptoms, while others may cause discomfort, pain, and itching.
