Start your day with some low carb breakfast recipes for IBS! All of the following recipes are provided by our About.com Guide to Low Carb Diets and they were chosen for the IBS-friendly way in which the breakfast recipes are prepared.
Some IBS patients are afraid to eat breakfast for fear of aggravating their symptoms. This kind of thinking may be a mistake. Those of you who suffer from diarrhea-predominant IBS (IBS-D) would be well served by eating a small, low-fat breakfast so as to encourage your digestive system to function in a smooth way. Eating a larger breakfast would be beneficial for those of you who suffer from constipation predominant IBS (IBS-C), so as to stimulate the body's own gastrocolic reflex and encourage a morning bowel movement.
The following low carb recipes should all prove to be easy on the digestive system, regardless of your IBS sub-type.
- Easy Flax Breakfast Pudding
For those of you who deal with constipation, this is a delicious way to get some constipation-relieving flaxseed into your diet.
- Crustless Smoked Salmon, Leek, and Mushroom Quiche
A quiche is always a wonderful change of pace. To make it truly IBS-friendly, avoid the use of cayenne pepper or hot sauce. This recipe is not recommended if you suffer from lactose intolerance.
- Easy Eggs Florentine
A delicious way to get in some super-nutritious spinach. Skip the optional heavy cream to keep the fat level down.
- Pizza Frittata
Another recipe that starts your day off with some healthy vegetables. You may want to cook the vegetables a little longer than recommended to make them easier to digest, and I recommend that you use low-fat mozzarella. Be sure to skip the pepperoni; its fat level and spiciness are definitely not IBS-friendly!
- TVP "Oatmeal"
This recipe uses an ingredient called Texturized Vegetable Protein Product, a soy product. Judging by the reviews, it's a winner!
