Definition:

External hemorrhoids are swollen veins found on the anus. External hemorrhoids may feel like a bump or a lump and in some cases cause no symptoms. External hemorrhoids can become painful, itchy and cause bleeding. At times, the blood flow to the vein is constricted to the point that a blood clot forms, a condition known as a thrombosed hemorrhoid.
