Question: Will I eventually need surgery for my IBS?
Answer: No, there is, by definition, no structural or tissue abnormality in IBS. Therefore, there is no need for surgery. However, patients with IBS are at higher risk for unnecessary abdominal surgery. So it is important to seek a second opinion before consenting to any surgical procedure.
