Cleaning Cell Phones on the Go

How to Clean a Cell Phone

Updated January 08, 2013

We all know that washing our hands is an essential practice for preventing exposure to diseases, but you may not have given much thought to cleaning your cell phone. These days, most of us go everywhere with our cell phones, and for some that means even into the bathroom! Most advice for cleaning cell phones requires that you be home with access to cleaning supplies, and while cell phone cleaning kits might be good for removing dust and grime, the majority of them are not designed to remove germs. What's the solution? Alcohol swabs!

Alcohol swabs are inexpensive and can be purchased in most supermarkets and drugstores. They are located near the band-aids and other first aid supplies. You can carry the little packets around with you so they are easily accessible when you need them. Just remove the swab from the package and then lightly wipe the outside of your cell phone clean. An easy way to have some peace of mind!

A couple of words of caution: Alcohol swabs should not be used on silicone phone covers as alcohol will degrade the product. Alcohol swabs should not be used on iPhone screens either. iPhone screens should only be cleaned with a damp, lint free, microfiber cloth. For any product, your manufacturer's cleaning recommendations are always your safest bet.
