A memoir about irritable bowel syndrome (IBS)? Would you ever imagine such a thing to exist? Well, Tim Phelan has done it, showing tremendous courage in taking the private distress of IBS and putting it out there for the world to see. With candor and a marvelous sense of humor, Phelan poignantly expresses the devastating impact that IBS can have on a person’s life, relationships and career.

About the Author

Phelan is just an ordinary guy who suffered from untreated IBS for way too long.

  • Laugh out loud funny
  • Clearly illustrates the detrimental impact that IBS can have on a person’s personal and professional life
  • Offers the hope that with appropriate treatment, the disorder can become more manageable

Shortcomings

  • At times, the transitions between story lines is a little too abrupt

Is This Book for You?

If you are an IBS sufferer, you will be nodding your head as you read this book, thinking, “Yes, that is exactly what it’s like!” and “The same thing happened to me!” If you have not yet found a treatment approach that offers you a sense of confidence in living your life with IBS, Phelan’s IBS journey and his ultimate optimism may inspire you to keep searching to find some strategies that work for you. IBS sufferers should also hand this book to those in their life that they are closest with in order to educate them about how challenging it is to deal with IBS on a daily basis.
