Question: Can financial stress cause stomach problems?
I am frequently worried about money and have a lot of financial stress. I seem to be having stomach problems. Can financial stress be affecting my stomach?
Answer: Yes, the stress of being under financial strain can cause an increase in stomach problems. This is due to the effect that out body’s stress response has on our digestive system. Individuals under financial stress may find that they experience an increase in indigestion, heartburn, intestinal gas, and diarrhea. Stress management strategies, such as relaxation exercises can help to “turn off” the stress response and reduce your symptoms.
