From the article: Self Care for Constipation
Although certain ads would like to convince you otherwise, it is often not so easy to know what to do about constipation. Finding remedies is further complicated by the fact that the topic is not something that most people feel comfortable discussing freely. Things are different here! Grapeseed oil
- Lemon water and a tablespoon of grapeseed oil everyday works great.

Licorice and Hot Tea
- I learned years ago when I was pregnant that licorice was a natural laxative. Also, tea, or even drinking plain ol' hot water will help.

Coffee, Water, and Exercise
- If I get "stopped up" I increase my water intake and I add a large cup of coffee to my morning routine. If that doesn't work, I go on a long walk. Eventually things will get back on the move.

Ayurvedic Triphala
- I like to take an ayurvedic remedy, Triphala. That seems to help. (Also, sounds odd, but a couple of cups of strong, regular coffee will also often help for me.)

Yes, I'm a Cliche'
- I heard that prune juice was supposed to help, so that's what we use if one of us is 'having trouble'. It may sound like a cliche', but it's worked for us!

Water and Sea Salt
- I find that I am able to avoid constipation altogether with a simple ritual: At least eight 8 oz glasses of water a day, with the first and last glasses of the day preceded by a teaspoon or so of REAL sea salt. Doing this keeps my fluid balance perfect, so that not only is my system regular now, but I don't retain water like I used to. Now the only time I have to worry about constipation is when I get lazy and forget to take my water and sea salt.

Eat Fat, whole grains, and Drink Coffee
- I find that when my diet gets too low in fat, the wheels stop moving. Not just bowels but joints too. I try to keep my diet at about 25 - 30 percent healthy fats. Whole grains too are important for regularity. I notice a big difference in when my diet is high in whole grains and legumes. When I'm desperate, a cup of coffee or tea usually helps. Magnesium supplements at night before bed work well too.
