Hot bath
- I take a hot bath and try to control the pain by breathing slow. The pain at times is unbearable and I eventually fall asleep from the exhaustion. When I wake up I feel somewhat better.

IBS for 6 years...NOT FUN
- I find my IBS is triggered by spicy foods and sometimes popcorn. When I get it I feel like I am giving birth. Horrible constipation for hours with pain like my stomach is going to explode. Something I have to found that relieves the pain within about 20 minutes is Dulcolax Stool Softener. Once it kicks in, I can get some rest and in the morning, the pipes seem to be flowing well. :) Worth a try for someone desperate and it only costs a few bucks....

Don't Over Eat!
- I've had this for about 3 years. Overeating can definitely cause stomach aches. Eating a lot of junk food can also cause it. My advice is that you watch what you eat. Also, take a pill prescribed to you by your doctor.

I jumped on this site and read some of your responses and seen to try crackers, and to my amazement the bloating, and/or contractions subsided enough to allow me to sleep. THANK YOU VERY MUCH! I appreciated the rest!!!

Remove Gluten
- I have found the removing gluten from my diet has made my episodes of pain much less frequent. I also find that using a heating pad can be very helpful.

Prescription Antispasmodic!!!
- I have had IBS since I was 3 years old. I am 20 now. When I was young I would get "flare ups" almost daily with I'd say on the 1-10 pain scale, a 6. More recently, I had a job with a contractor. The work was backbreaking. The pain began to get so bad I could not walk. I now get IBS sporadically, but when I do, it sure does let me know it is here. This prompted me to go to a proctologist. After multiple exams, tests, and a colonoscopy, he determined that not only do I have a bad case of IBS, I have internal hemorrhoids. He said these have a huge role in the pain level. He put me on 10mg of levbid to take on days that I have a flare up or that are stressful(since stress triggers ibs). he also put me on Align, a probiotic. On top of that he recommended that I started a fiber regiment and that I use Benefiber daily. He also gave me the standard list of foods to avoid. This has done wonders for me!!!!

Pain kills
- I have has IBS from the age 9. It is so bad that I have to leave work. I know some food I need to avoid but not all! I have constipation until I have a episode so bad that I sweat so bad yet my skin is cold and clammy. The pain is unreal. There are times I feel like I am ready to pass out. I put a cold cloth on my head and sit in a hot bath until my medicine sets in.

Bob
- I have had stomach pains and irregular bowl movements for three years and I finally stumbled on a cure I found on the web, and it worked for me. I changed my diet, I stopped eating and drinking acidic foods. Too much acid in your stomach causes pain and irregular bowel movements. I try to eat mostly alkaline foods and water which soothes the stomach. I haven't had a stomach problem for at least 2 years. Look up alkaline diet on the web for more information.

Heat Heat Heat.
- I have had IBS for a long time now and I find that the best form of pain relief for me are Heat pads. I try to have my heat pads on the hotter side, maybe a bit of the pain transference idea? But anyway, heat pads and a cup of hot water sipped or a fruity tea. Lay off the milk!!!!

get relief instantly
- When you have pain use aniseed in mouth and chew it. If you want to get longtime relief use aniseed tea in the morning on an empty stomach.

Nothing seems to help
- I have had IBS now for 4 years since having my daughter. I have been on every medication and still I am in agony. I have had every test in the world and I am so depressed by the pain it's making my life hell. I can't play with my daughter, every time I eat I feel sick or do vomit. My boyfriend has stuck by me, but it's hard for him being both mummy and daddy. I don't know what to do.

Peppermint and Infrared Sauna works!
- I use peppermint oil and infrared sauna heat therapy to reduce my extremely painful IBS. Ever since I've gotten my sauna, I've noticed the pain level has started slowly dropping with regular use. Read the facts FIRST before buying a sauna from a reputable site.

enemy is spicy
- STAY AWAY FROM SPICY FOOD, EVEN IF YOU FEEL BETTER FOR DAYS, EATING SPICY FOOD WILL SERIOUSLY TRIGGER YOUR IBS AND IT WILL HURT FOR DAYS!!! TRUST ME, I FELT LIKE I WAS DYING!! GOOD LUCK TO YOU ALL.

Every case of IBS is different
- Everyone is different in terms of suffering from IBS. I have had IBS-D for several years. IBS-D is not the typical IBS with constipation, it is the exact opposite. We get the cramping, bloating, and discomfort as well but on top of that we have chronic diarrhea, which has stopped me from living my life normally. So after years of research and a few doctor visits, I found drinking pure peppermint tea in the morning, pro-biotics (Digestive Advantage for IBS), small meal proportions, starchy foods (bread, potatoes, rice), heating pads and the occasional help from my best friend Immodium AD, soothes my stomach. I have to stick to these diets and tips EVERY DAY for it to work. Even if I cheat once, my stomach goes haywire!
