Habba Syndrome and IBS

By January 10, 2014

Follow me on:

Have you heard about Habba Syndrome? It is the brainchild of Dr. Saad F. Habba, who has a unique theory regarding what might be behind diarrhea predominant IBS (IBS-D) and functional diarrhea. I have written about the syndrome here:

I recently received an email from a reader who was a big proponent of the syndrome because of having achieved significant improvement in IBS symptoms upon receiving the diagnosis and following the recommended treatment. This reader felt that my overview was too negative. This was interesting to me because as I have been following the emerging work regarding the use of bile acid binders for people who experience diarrhea immediately after eating, I have been remarking that this work might just validate Dr. Habba's theory. You can read more about this topic in the following two articles:

My intent with the Habba Syndrome overview was to present a balanced view of the subject. If Dr. Habba's theory helps even just one person to feel better, than he has my support.
