Barbara B. Bolen, PhD, is a former writer for Verywell Health covering IBS. For over 15 years, she has been providing support to people who have IBS. Her training as a licensed  clinical psychology, transformational health coaching, and nutrition, all provide her with a unique ability to guide those who have IBS toward a life that is not dominated by their stomach issues. Dr. Bolen has written four books on IBS:

Education

Dr. Bolen received her undergraduate degree from St. John's University in Jamaica, New York, and her master's and doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology from Hofstra University in Hempstead, New York. She is licensed as a psychologist in the state of New York.

She received her certification as a health coach through the Institute for Integrative Nutrition and has achieved Master Level Certification in transformational life coaching through the Health Coach Institute. She is also certified in the use of Interactive Guided Imagery, an effective treatment for pain reduction.
