After reading some of these posts I'm wondering if some of u guys may have Celiac disease rather than IBS. It's wheat products that bother that. I've had IBS for years, mine hurts in my lower back, it's really painful! Just wondered if anyone else has that symptom.

Help me

I think I have had this (ibs) since I was born and I'm just a teen, the doctors just found out about it and I have heard that you Are allow to take days of school if you have (ibs) is that true?? Because that would really help. NOTE FROM DR. BOLEN: Yes, you can take days off of school. Ask your guidance counselor about a 504 Plan.

IBS

I think I was born with Irritable bowel disease. Let me tell you what helped me. I am now 75 yrs old and in pretty good health. However, I have a crazy bowel. I have been to may gastroenterologists and have been hospitalized in teaching hospitals so the doctors and students could study my bowel, blood et cetera. I have taken so many medications to help calm my bowel down that I can't even remember them. Bentyl is a wonderful drug for me when I have a bad flare up but I could not take the drug all the time. However, I learned to listen to my own body. I do not eat any dairy products what-so-ever. I watch even the cereals to see if they contain lactose or whey. I never eat ice-cream or cake that is made with dairy milk. My intestines just don't know what to do with the sugar that is in milk. Scientist call it a 5 ring sugar and it takes thousands of enzymes to break it down. Evidently my pancreas and stomach do not produce these enzymes. I've tried taking them to no avail.

omg wtf?!

i dont know what is going on with me. for about a year now i've been havingstomach problems but i thought it was just random constipation. it was hard to poo and even harder to fart? idk how that's even possible lol. the idiot doc i go to doesn't know anything. i had an x-ray done and am getting blood work done. i sleep barely a few hours if i'm lucky, i'm constantly tired. i get hot/cold all the time. i'm pale, weak and shaky. takes me awhile to feel ''normal'' in the morning (normal to me is just not being sick). honestly, my plan is to wait it out and do w.e i can to try fix it. but really im jus hoping the world ends in december. feeling like this really opened my eyes to the true harsh ass world we live in. imagin instead of ibs or w.e, u had heart problems? or lungs? shit happens to ppl everyday. i never appreciated all the times i jus felt normal. now id trade all my belongings jus fora good night sleep =\ any1 figure anything out? does sleeping sitting up help? HELP!!! AHH

Anxiety with ibs

I'm 16 years old, i started getting constipation, then very painful diarrhea when i was about 9 years old. It got really bad around 13 years old. I always stayed home from school so i signed up for online school. At one point I'd get the stomach cramps every other day for 3 months. Last year i didn't leave my house at all because i thought i'd get sick in public. Nothing helped but then i stopped eating meat. For 2 months my stomach has been fine and I could go to the bathroom fine every day. I started leaving the house and made a lot of appointments. (doctor, eyes, hair etc) but i've been constipated for a while now and my stomach is extremely bloated and uncomfortable. Guess i have to be a hermit again. Its so frustrating.

Longest BM

I've had IBS since a baby. It was always bad during my childhood having to use the bathroom 30 minutes but I managed. However, about 2 years ago, I started escalating in time going from 1 and then to an 1.5 hours. I went to GP and he gave me Bentyl but didn't help. I kept increasing in time and got up to 3 freaking hours in the bathroom. I then went to a specialist, got the Colonoscopy done, and all he told me was that I had Colitis and had an inflamed Colon. Needless to say, 3 hour BM is surely more than Colitis. Well, the laxative they gave me made me bleed a lot (more than supposed to) and shortly after tests, I started going up in time. I went up to 4 and then 5 hours. I now use the bathroom 6 hours a day. I have a Laptop, books, etc. all there in the Bathroom and have moved my life in there. Actually, I am writing this from the toilet. If anyone else has experienced this and knows what it is, please help!!!

Tired

I have had IBS now for 18 years and it has progressively gotten worse. I currently take 20 mg Bentyl but really no response. My life revolves around my digestive tract. No one in my life understands. It's humiliating to be around other people..I am constantly wondering where the bathroom is or is this going to cause a "blowout". I think doctors take this condition and the way it affects our life seriously. I'm reading other posts and they are full of hopelessness and embarrassment. I understand completely! I want to enjoy myself without worrying about a gurgling tummy or passing gas!! I'm serious :)

Yup!! No relief here either!

Diagnosed 10 yrs ago but have had IBS for 18 yrs. It's atypical so was hard to diagnose. Apparently caused by severe gastro the year before. Anything and everything sets it off so I'm too scared to eat for 2 weeks out of every month. I'm over the pain. I have 5 kids under 7 who have to fend for themselves for half an hr 4-5 times a day and night is just broken sleep!! I'm over it. Years ago I used to take Zelmac for it which worked brilliantly but they took it off the market because someone suffered a heart attack. Since then, absolutely no relief except during pregnancy and when on the pill?? Sounds so strange which is why I didn't believe I had IBS for years but my gastroenterologist assures me that this is common in women?? Anyhow, I'm over it.

My ibs is ruining my life

Hi, I was diagnosed with ibs-d recently after a year of symptoms.. I have really really loose stools all the time and constantly feel the need to go to the toilet (all the time), if I'm due to try and go out, I need the toilet at least twice, if I have to go to work, I need the toilet a couple of times before I can leave, and I only live 5 mins walk from work!! My doctor has given me amitriptyline 10mg and told me to take it every evening and up the dose as needed! I am currently trying 20mg per evening but it is leaving me so zombified in the mornings! I have recently lost my girlfriend due to lack of any social life and more.. The doctor prescribed the amitryptiline for anxiety/nerves and I have started taking pysillium husk capsules to bulk out my stools! I take all this along with 8-10 loperimide capsules every day and yet I still have these issues! My work is fairly understanding but I can tell its starting to effect my work! I really don't know what else to do! Any ideas???

Oh not again

I am a 21 year old college student. I was diagnosed with IBS last month but have suffered for years with the symptoms. When I am in class I have to constantly run to the bathroom and have terrible nausea. I get panic attacks and have lots of gas. It is super embarrassing when you are sitting in class and have all that gas. I also have a hard time going to malls and taking trips because I am worried about not making it to the bathroom in time or having a panic attack. If I get stressed over anything I really can't eat anything or even function. When I think that I have things under control something happens and I am back to where I started.

IBS

I am 45 years young and was diagnosed with ibs when i was 21 years young. they say my case is severe they also say that i have colitis as well :( you think by now i should know how to handle a attack, but i feel like im going to die because the pain is so bad ! i take Bentyl 20 mg.on a daily bases. i try to not let it take over my day to day life, but it does. there are times when i just can not see my self living any more, but i am DETERMINED to not let it win ! the pain is like no other, it can last any where from hours, days, or weeks ! it is very hard for family and friends to understand this chronic illness since they say i look great. i had a attack on sat.today is tue. and i feel a little better.
